Stockholm's - and Sweden's - principal airport is situated to the north of the city, roughly midway to Uppsala. It was from here, on a freezing New Year's Day, that our journey took to the skies - very un-Viking I know - and across the Arctic Circle (Polcirkeln) to Kiruna, Lappland. Getting to the airport is quick and easy by the non-stop Arlanda Express (pictured below).

The flying conditions appeared less than perfect, but this is Sweden and weather that would bring a complete halt to the UK's transport system is regular occurrence at this latitude.
Now, where did I leave that anti-freeze?
